Terms Explained
Addon Domain - Allows you to host a second web site on top of you main site (piggy back).
Autoresponders - Each e-mail account can be configured to reply to a message automatically once a message has been received. A good example of the use of this features is to set up a Autoresponder for when you go on holidays or are not available.
"Catch All" Email Account - A catch all account will receive all e-mail sent to e-mail addresses ending in @yourdomain allowing you to receive messages where people have misspelt your name or messages from a e-mail address from a previous employee who is no longer with you. One of your e-mail account s should be configured as a catch all account or un-routed mail will consume your webspace. You can also configure this account to discard or bounce unrouted mail to help avoid SPAM.
CGI - Common Gateway Interface - For advanced users only
Clam Antivirus - Allows you to scan your files located on your hosting package for viruses.
Dell Xeon, Multi Processor Servers - Type of computer used, very fast.
Domain Names - A name usually consisting of text that when set up, corresponds to the IP Address of a computer on the Internet. ie: yourdomain.com.au. Note: .com addresses are cheaper than .com.au addresses.
Control Panel - A interface that allows you to configure your hosting package by using a web browser (ie: Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc).
Front Page Extensions - Microsoft FrontPage is a web page creation software package. If you designed your website in FrontPage, you will need FrontPage extensions to be enabled on your web hosting. We support all versions of FrontPage from 2000 forward.
FTP
Access - File Transfer Protocol - Most popular way of transferring files to
the Internet. FrontPage users must use publish feature included with in Microsoft
FrontPage.
FTP Accounts - There may be many people work on different sections of a website. You may also like a friend to upload your site for you without giving them the main account password. With FTP accounts, each person needing FTP access can have their own user name and password. You can also control what area of your website these users can access.
Gigabyte (Gb) - Unit of measurement used to measure disk space and bandwidth. Approximately 700 floppy disks to a Gigabyte.
IP Address - Just as you live at a address, a computer on the Internet has an address where it can be found. ie:169.20.15.10.
ISP - Internet Service Provider
Linux - A type of operating system base on Unix. While Windows web servers are becoming increasingly popular, Linux servers still out number the amount of Windows web servers in use.
Mail Forwarding - Mail forwarding allows you to redirect your email. You can use this feature to redirect your e-mail to a co-worker while you are on holidays or to forward your email to another account such as your home e-mail account or the e-mail account your Internet service provider has given you.
Megabyte (Mb) - Unit of measurement used to measure disk space and bandwidth. A floppy disk = 1.4 Mb
MySQL Databases - Used to collect data in sites such as e-commerce sites - For advanced users only.
Parked Domains - Many domains can be setup to point to a primary domain. This process is called parking and one example where you could use this is, if you wanted both yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com.au to point to the same web site.
Perl - Practical Extraction and Reporting Language - A programming language - For advanced users only.

POP Email Accounts - Post Office Protocol 3, one type of mail system commonly used on the Internet. With POP e-mail, you can set up accounts that end in your domain (ie: bob@yourdomain.com). Mail can be sent and received using programs such as Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, etc. Each package is allocated number of accounts that can be setup and you can control the amount physical space each account can use.
SPAM - Unsolicited e-mail, junk mail, an increasing problem. Illegal in Australia and against our Terms and Conditions. Any one found sending Unsolicited Mail will have their accounts suspended or canceled.
Spam Assassin - A feature included in your control panel that allows you to filter unsolicited mail. For more details see www.spamassassin.org
SSI - Sever Side Includes - For advanced users only.
Storage Space - Amount of physical space allocated to you on web server. It includes the space your website files occupy as well as the amount of e-mail that can be stored on the server and is measured in Megabytes or Gigabytes.
Subdomains - A domain beneath a main domain. ie: support.yourdomain.com.
Web Hosting - Rent to store your files on the Internet and to use customised e-mail
Web Mail - A interface that allows you to check your POP Mail accounts by using a web browser (ie: Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc).
Web Statistics - A interface that allows you to check details such as how many hits your site receives, the IP Address of your visitors, the origin of your visitors, etc, by using a web browser (ie: Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc).
Web Traffic - When ever someone looks at your website or e-mail is sent or received, files are transferred across the Internet. Web traffic (often referred to as Bandwidth) is the total amount of files transferred in a given period usually measured in Megabytes or Gigabytes. Each package is allocated a monthly amount of web traffic and if the customer exceeds this their account will automatically be suspended (unless upgraded) until the start of the next month.
